Helpful Tips

Before You Start

  • CAUTION

    Do not store anything COMBUSTIBLE (e.g., paint thinner, gasoline, solvents, or paint)

  • Preparation

    Prepare your space by placing a protective cover on the floor under your goods.

  • Smallest Space

    Rent the smallest amount of space you need and pack the space as full as you can. If necessary for your situation, plan for space to move and rearrange items to gather boxes on the bottom of a stack.

  • Access

    Plan your storage space in advance. Place those items that you may need to access often in the front of the unit. Try to leave an aisle down the center of the storage unit for easier access. Leave a small space between the walls and boxes to allow for air circulation.

  • Boxes

    If possible, try to use uniform size boxes for easy stacking. Make sure the boxes you use are sturdy and in good condition. When stacking your boxes in your unit put the heavier boxes on the bottom with the lighter and fragile boxes on the top.

  • Labeling Your Boxes

    Labeling your boxes will help you locate your contents faster and help to keep you organized when you move your boxes to the next location. Label the top, front and sides of your box with the name of the room and a brief description of the contents of the box. Initially this will take you more time but will end up saving you more time in the long run.

  • Wrap it up

    Description goeDishes and glasses should be wrapped in paper and packed in sturdy boxes. Stack them on top.s here

  • Fragile Items

    Pictures and mirrors should be wrapped in cardboard and Packing blankets for larger items such as mirrors, pitchers, ext. They should be marked “Fragile” and placed in an area that will keep them away from possible damage.


Packing Your Storage Unit

  • Removable Legs

    Tables that have removable legs should be removed and bundled to save space.

    You can use a small baggie affixed to the legs or table to store the hardware.

  • Square Pieces

    For a more efficient use of space, you should take large square items (i.e. Tables, Desks, ext.) and place them towards the back of the storage unit. If these items are sturdy, you can stack boxes on top of them to maximize storage space.

  • Sofas & Loveseats

    Sofas and loveseats can be stored on end to save floor space. Cushions may be wrapped in plastic and placed on top. To prevent punctures or damage do not place heavy or sharp items on Sofas and Loveseats.

  • Mattresses

    If you stand mattresses on their side, prop them up so they stand straight. They may tend to bend out of shape and become lumpy. Using a mattress bag is always a great way to protect your mattress during the move and in storage. If possible, it is best to store you mattress on the top of other items laying flat with no bends to keep this from damaging the mattress.

  • Gaining Extra Space

    Furniture with drawers can be utilized as storage places for pictures, knick-knacks, China, silverware, small items, etc. Wrap them in tablecloths, towels, or blankets to prevent breakage.

    Shovels, hoes, rakes and hoses can be stored together in empty trash cans. Stack extra cans inside each other. Also, larger appliances make excellent “packaging cases” for blankets, towels, tablecloths and clothes.
